President-elect Donald Trump has named Tom Homan, the former acting Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), as the new “border czar” in his administration. The appointment, which does not require Senate approval, signals Trump’s commitment to tightening border control and deportation policies as he prepares to assume office.
Announcing the decision on Truth Social, Trump expressed confidence in Homan’s experience and dedication to border security. “I am pleased to announce that former ICE Director and stalwart on border control, Tom Homan, will be joining the Trump administration in charge of our nation’s borders,” Trump stated.
Homan’s role will include oversight of maritime and aviation security, as well as the deportation of undocumented immigrants. Trump emphasized that Homan’s appointment is central to his pledge of implementing “the largest deportation operation in U.S. history.”
Homan, known for his hardline stance on immigration, previously served as acting ICE Director from 2017 to 2018. His return is seen as a move to strengthen border enforcement efforts in line with Trump’s renewed focus on immigration policy.
