Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has expressed frustration over what he perceives as the All Progressives Congress (APC) sidelining his administration from preparations for the upcoming inauguration of APC governor-elect Monday Okpebholo. Scheduled for November 12, the ceremony follows Obaseki’s People’s Democratic Party (PDP) losing the September election, where Okpebholo defeated the governor’s preferred candidate, Asue Ighodalo.
Obaseki, speaking at a PDP caretaker committee inauguration event in Benin City, claimed the APC’s actions ignored constitutional processes. “We are inaugurating a new government in Edo State, and the Edo State Government is not involved,” he said, accusing the APC of acting “as if there is no law.” He highlighted the need to respect government protocols and criticized what he viewed as attempts to marginalize the current administration.
The PDP has responded to the election outcome by filing a petition with the election tribunal, alleging their mandate was “stolen.”
