President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria has postponed the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting originally scheduled for Wednesday, in a tribute to the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, who passed away on Tuesday night.

In an official statement, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced, “The council meeting has been rescheduled in honor of Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja.” Following the announcement, Vice President Kashim Shettima led a minute’s silence in the Council Chamber to honor the late general’s memory.

Shettima also confirmed that ministers would visit Tinubu’s official residence for a condolence gathering. “Let’s do so as a family; this is the proper thing to do,” he told the council members. Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila will coordinate the visit.

Earlier in the day, Tinubu expressed his condolences to Lagbaja’s family and the Nigerian Armed Forces, lauding the general’s significant contributions to national security. Tinubu also ordered all flags across Nigeria to be flown at half-mast for seven days in tribute to Lagbaja’s service.

Lt. General Lagbaja, who served as Chief of Army Staff since June 2023, is remembered for his dedication to Nigeria’s defense.
