The Nigerian Senate Committee on Defence has affirmed its commitment to prioritizing funding for the country’s security and armed forces, declaring that no investment in this area is “too much.”

This statement was made by the committee’s Chairman, Senator Ahmad Lawal, during a press briefing after an oversight visit to the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC) in Jaji, Kaduna State, on Monday.

Lawal highlighted the critical role of security in stabilizing the nation, saying, “In contemporary Nigeria, everything revolves around security.” He noted that only with a secure environment can other essential services and infrastructures be reliably provided.

The Senate, he assured, would continue to ensure that the armed forces receive sufficient support to meet the country’s security needs. “When we are able to secure our environment, then we can provide other things easily and comfortably,” Lawal emphasized.

Reflecting on the importance of the AFCSC, Lawal described it as one of Nigeria’s key institutions for military training and education, offering courses at tactical, operational, and mid-levels for officers leading various military operations. He stated, “At the Senate, we view the AFCSC as one of the most important institutions for the professional development of our armed forces.”

The visit reflects the Senate’s ongoing focus on addressing the security challenges that have impacted several regions across the country, reaffirming its stance on maintaining robust support for the military’s operational and educational needs.
