Senate President Godswill Akpabio playfully rebuked Senator Osita Ngwu for commenting on Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu’s beauty during her ministerial screening at the Senate on Wednesday. Bianca, the accomplished diplomat, lawyer, and former beauty pageant titleholder, was among seven ministerial nominees screened for the position of Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
As Bianca concluded presenting her credentials, Akpabio opened the floor for questions. Ngwu, representing Enugu West District, began his comments by acknowledging Bianca’s beauty, stating, “Mr. President, the beautiful nominee standing before us.” Akpabio, in a lighthearted tone, interrupted, saying, “Restrict yourself to the resume. Forget this word ‘beautiful.’ She didn’t put in the CV that she is beautiful,” prompting laughter from the chamber.
Ngwu went on to praise Bianca’s qualifications, while Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe of Abia South District also voiced support, commending President Bola Tinubu for nominating the “mother” of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). “By bringing an APGA person to be a minister, [the president] has already started a unity government and national integration,” Abaribe remarked.
Following the lighthearted exchange, Bianca was asked to take a bow, moving forward in the nomination process.
