Renowned gospel singer Tope Alabi has voiced her disappointment over what she describes as “fake love” and growing rivalries among gospel artistes in the music industry.

Speaking on Sunday, October 27, 2024 at the ‘Celebrating Jesus 7.0’ concert in Ibadan, Alabi shared her concerns with the audience just before her performance, urging for unity and genuine support.

Alabi expressed frustration with the jealousy and divisions that she says have permeated both established and emerging gospel artists. She called for a shift in focus from fame to accountability, emphasizing the importance of building a legacy that honors God.

“God will hold us accountable for these things,” Alabi stated passionately. “Let us stop it. It is high time we know that we are working for the kingdom and not for ourselves or fame. The bigger ones separated themselves from the up-and-coming. And yet the bigger ones still fight themselves again. What do you want those coming up to do?”

Alabi noted that emerging artists are already adopting the same negative behaviors they see from their mentors, saying, “The emerging ones are already against each other. These children coming up are already backstabbing and emulating us because we started it. They are enemies to each other and smile with one another – they are faking it. This is getting out of hand, and God will ask us.”

Her candid remarks resonated with many attendees, highlighting the need for a more supportive and unified gospel music community.
