In a bid to reduce the cost of governance, President Bola Tinubu has implemented new restrictions on federal ministers, ministers of state, and heads of agencies, limiting their official convoys to a maximum of three vehicles. The directive, announced in a statement today by his media aide, Bayo Onanuga, emphasizes that no additional vehicles will be allocated for official movement.
President Tinubu stated, “This initiative is aimed at enhancing efficiency and accountability in government operations while also addressing our fiscal responsibilities.”
Earlier this year, President Tinubu had already taken significant steps to cut government expenses by slashing the entourage size for foreign trips from 50 to 20 officials, while local trips were limited to 25 officials. The Vice President’s entourage was also reduced to five officials for foreign trips and 15 for local travel.
Additionally, the President’s new directive mandates that all ministers, ministers of state, and heads of agencies will be limited to a maximum of five security personnel, which will include four police officers and one officer from the Department of State Services (DSS). “No additional security personnel will be assigned,” the statement clarified.
Furthermore, President Tinubu has instructed the National Security Adviser to collaborate with military, paramilitary, and security agencies to assess the potential for further reductions in vehicle and personnel deployment for these officials.
The new measures are expected to be implemented immediately, with all affected officials required to comply.
