
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has released its highly anticipated shortlist for the 2024 Men’s Player of the Year award, featuring Nigerian players Ademola Lookman and William Troost-Ekong. Notably absent from the list are in-form striker Victor Boniface and reigning titleholder Victor Osimhen.
The ten-man shortlist includes several notable talents, particularly from North Africa. Among the nominees are Morocco’s defensive stars Achraf Hakimi and Sofiane Rahimi, as well as Algeria’s Amine Gouiri. Also recognized are Ivory Coast’s Simon Adingra, DR Congo’s Chancel Mbemba, and Guinea’s Serhou Guirassy, all of whom had standout performances over the past year. Burkina Faso’s Edmond Tapsoba and South Africa’s Ronwen Williams round out the list, showcasing the diverse talent across the continent.
The CAF Awards 2024 will determine who succeeds Osimhen as Africa’s top player, with the ceremony set to celebrate the best of African football.
Additionally, the Super Eagles have been nominated for the 2024 CAF National Team of the Year Award, alongside national teams from Angola, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, DR Congo, Morocco, Mozambique, South Africa, Sudan, and Uganda. These teams have all demonstrated exceptional performance in recent competitions, making the award highly competitive.
Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has also received a nomination for the prestigious 2024 CAF Goalkeeper of the Year award. He joins a competitive field that includes established goalkeepers like Morocco’s Yassine Bounou, Egypt’s Mostafa Shobeir, and Senegal’s Djigui Diarra. Other contenders include Cameroon’s Andre Onana and experienced players from various African nations.
The CAF Awards 2024 will highlight the outstanding achievements of African football talents, with the winners set to be announced at the upcoming ceremony.
