Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, the former Minister of Women Affairs, has addressed her dismissal for the first time since President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria relieved her of her duties during a recent cabinet reshuffle.
The announcement came on Wednesday, as part of a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, where Kennedy-Ohanenye was one of five ministers let go.
In addition to Kennedy-Ohanenye, other ministers removed from the cabinet included Lola Ade-John (Minister of Tourism), Jamila Bio Ibrahim (Minister of Youth Development), Tahir Mamman (Minister of Education), and Abdullahi Muhammad Gwarzo (Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development).
In response to her dismissal, Kennedy-Ohanenye took to social media platform X on Thursday morning to express her gratitude. She wrote, “I write to express my sincere gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the opportunity to serve as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It has been an honour and a privilege to contribute to the development of our Nation.”
She further acknowledged the support of Senator Oluremi Tinubu, stating, “I would also like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, for her invaluable guidance and support during my tenure as Minister of Women Affairs. Her kindness and encouragement have been instrumental to my success.”
Kennedy-Ohanenye also conveyed her appreciation to the Nigerian people, saying, “To the people of Nigeria, I am deeply grateful for your unwavering support. Your trust and confidence in me have been a constant source of inspiration.” She concluded her message with a commitment to continue contributing to the country’s progress and prosperity.
Interestingly, reports have emerged indicating that some employees in the Ministry of Women’s Affairs celebrated the announcement of Kennedy-Ohanenye’s dismissal, reflecting a mix of sentiments following the cabinet changes.
