The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has suspended actress Halima Abubakar for what it described as “unprofessional misconduct” involving the spreading of false rumours about fellow actors and prominent Nigerians. The suspension was announced following a two-year investigation by a special secret panel into allegations of slander within the entertainment industry.

In a statement released on Friday, the AGN said, “The investigation revealed that Miss Halima Abubakar was responsible for spreading false information, including claims of extramarital affairs between actors and highly placed individuals.”

The panel, which began its work in 2022, confirmed that Abubakar was linked to the damaging rumors, leading to her indefinite suspension from all Guild activities. The statement emphasized that during her suspension, Abubakar is prohibited from participating in any AGN or filming activities. The National Disciplinary Committee will review her case to determine further action.

The AGN also warned that any violation of the suspension order could result in additional disciplinary measures, and it noted that other female members are currently under investigation for similar allegations.

The Guild commended the panel for its thorough work in uncovering the source of the rumours,

“We appreciate the professionalism and dedication of the secret investigative panel in resolving this matter,” the statement added.
