The Nigerian Senate passed a vote of confidence on Senate President Godswill Akpabio, on Thursday, October 17, 2024, dispelling rumours of an impending impeachment.
This development comes after media reports suggested that some senators were plotting to remove Akpabio from his position, with claims that the presidency had deployed operatives from the Department of State Services (DSS) to the National Assembly to prevent the impeachment.
Akpabio has denied any such threats, stating that the Senate remains united. “There is no division among us, and the chamber is solidly working together,” he said.
The presidency also issued a statement dismissing the impeachment rumors, affirming that there were no attempts to unseat the Senate President.
