The Nigerian Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh, has expressed strong disapproval of the treatment of the Super Eagles in Libya, where players and officials were stranded at a Libyan airport for hours without access to food or the internet. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Enoh stated that the Federal Government is committed to getting to the bottom of the issue.

“The Nigerian government has not and will not take this lightly,” Enoh said. He confirmed that the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, had summoned the Libyan Ambassador to Nigeria to address the incident.

Enoh further accused the Libyan Football Federation of deliberately mistreating the Nigerian team, dismissing claims that the Super Eagles had similarly mistreated Libyan players during their previous encounter in Nigeria. “All these things were created deliberately to make a false impression,” he said.

The Super Eagles were preparing for their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against the Mediterranean Knights when the incident occurred, requiring diplomatic efforts and social media outcry to resolve. The Sports Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring such treatment does not recur.
