The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has removed the scheduled second-leg Group D fixture between Nigeria and Libya from the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. The Super Eagles were set to face Libya today, following their 1-0 victory in the first leg at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Friday.
The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) and the Super Eagles recounted a distressing 14-hour experience at a Libyan airport, where they reportedly faced harsh treatment, prompting their return to Nigeria. In response to these events, CAF announced that it had launched an investigation into the incident.
Meanwhile, the Libya Football Federation has accused Nigeria of sabotage and is considering legal action over the cancellation.
CAF’s official Twitter account also confirmed the omission of the Nigeria vs Libya match in its Tuesday fixture update, signaling the official delisting of the game.
