The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has revealed that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) owes its members almost N15 billion.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, IPMAN National President, Abubakar Garima, lamented that petroleum marketers have not been able to load any trucks since the NNPCL raised its pump price, leaving their payments stuck with the company.
“Roughly, it is almost getting to N15 billion. Our money is already with the NNPCL. It has refused to give us the product we paid for and is asking us to complete the difference,” Garima stated.
He further demanded that either the NNPCL sells the product at the same rate it receives from the Dangote Refinery or refunds the money to marketers so they can make direct purchases from the refinery.
This comes amidst reports of fuel shortages, with many filling stations across the country struggling to access products since the NNPCL began loading Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) from the Dangote Refinery. IPMAN had previously urged the government to allow its members to directly source petroleum products to ease pressure in the sector.
