A gas explosion at a Mobil Filling Station on Awolowo Way, Ikeja, Lagos, has left seven people with severe burns and destroyed several vehicles on Thursday, August 8, 2024.
The incident occurred while a gas tanker was offloading its content.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with flames engulfing vehicles and injuring customers present at the station. A lawyer, using the handle @darknbold1, reported the swift response of the Lagos State Fire Service, which prevented further casualties.

According to an on-site investigation by newsmen, at least nine vehicles were completely burnt, and two nearby buildings were damaged by the intense heat. The explosion reportedly happened due to a mishap during the gas offloading process, involving the tanker driver’s assistant.

Emergency services, including the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the National Emergency Management Agency, were able to extinguish the fire and provide medical assistance to the injured.
