Nigerian music icon Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has confirmed his separation from his wife, Annie Idibia, igniting widespread reactions on social media.
2Baba announced the split in a social media post on Sunday, revealing that they had been separated for a while and had recently filed for divorce. In a follow-up video, he affirmed that his account was not hacked, dispelling speculations that the news was false.
The announcement has since divided public opinion, with fans and celebrities weighing in on the matter. While some sympathized with the singer, suggesting he may have endured difficulties in the marriage, others criticized him for making the announcement public.
An X user, @BayoOtedola, stated, “2Baba has always been private about his marriage, and for him to come online with this means he has endured enough. Wishing him all the best.”
However, others sided with Annie, emphasizing her years of devotion to the singer. A user, @Chiomabonny, wrote, “Annie was obsessed with 2Baba. How will she cope without him?”
Media personality Toke Makinwa condemned the singer for making the split public, calling it “wrong on all levels.” Similarly, Nollywood actress Mary Remmy Njoku accused 2Baba of humiliating Annie at her lowest and warned that he would have questions to answer in the future.
2Baba and Annie began dating when they were 15 and 24, respectively, before tying the knot in 2012. They share two daughters, while 2Baba has other children from previous relationships.
As reactions continue to pour in, fans remain divided over the long-standing couple’s highly publicized breakup.
