An 18-year-old apprentice in Anambra State has triggered alarm after allegedly impregnating ten girls within five months, prompting state authorities to intervene.

According to Women and Social Welfare Commissioner Ify Obinabo, the teenager first impregnated his employer’s daughter and a salesgirl at his workplace before being dismissed. Returning to his village, he reportedly went on to impregnate eight more girls over three months.

The boy’s distraught mother reported the incidents to the ministry, seeking help. “This situation exceeds my capacity,” Obinabo stated. “At 18, he’s impregnated ten girls by simply professing love and promising marriage.”

The unidentified youth claimed his approach involved romantic declarations and future marriage pledges. Community leaders are now debating whether the case requires legal, psychological, or spiritual intervention given the teenager’s age and the scale of consequences.

The Anambra government is reviewing comprehensive measures to address adolescent sexuality and parental guidance gaps exposed by the incident. Child welfare experts suggest the case highlights urgent needs for improved sex education and youth mentorship programs across Nigerian communities.
