Sixteen children, believed to be victims of trafficking, have been rescued from their abductors in the Osuoha area of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. The incident gained widespread attention after a social media video emerged, appealing for help to locate the children’s parents.
A police source, speaking anonymously, disclosed that two women suspected to be part of a human trafficking ring were arrested in Ozuoba, Port Harcourt, by unidentified plainclothes security operatives. These women were reportedly the children’s guardians before their arrest. The children were subsequently taken into protective custody at the Ozuoba Police Station before being moved to the CP Monitoring Unit at the Old GRA Police Station.
The whereabouts of the two women remain unknown, and the Rivers State Police Command has yet to officially comment on the matter. The rescued children, aged 5 to 16, include nine girls and seven boys.
This is not the first child trafficking case the Rivers State Police Command has been involved in. Further investigations are ongoing to uncover more details about the situation.
