Annabelle Fasuba, the 13-year-old daughter of former Nigerian sprinter Olusoji Fasuba, has achieved a historic milestone by setting a new indoor record across three age categories in the 60m event.
Competing at the Sutcliffe Indoor 60’s and 60m hurdles event in London on Sunday, Annabelle claimed her first senior title despite running against under-23 athletes. She won the preliminary round with a time of 7.61 seconds and secured victory in the final at 7.65 seconds, even after experiencing issues with her spikes shortly before the race.
Her performance positions her as the number-one under-15 female sprinter in the UK for the 2025 season. According to her father, Olusoji Fasuba, Annabelle’s time of 7.61 seconds, once ratified, will set a new club record for the under-15 (previously 8.11 seconds), under-17, and under-20 (both previously 7.90 seconds) categories.
“This is an extraordinary start to the new season,” the former African record holder in the men’s 100m expressed.
Annabelle has been gaining prominence in athletics, having earlier set UK records in the under-15 Girls 100m and 200m events in May. At the Devon County AA Track and Field Championships, she clocked 12.11 seconds in the 100m and a personal best of 25.02 seconds in the 200m, breaking championship records in both events.
Her father, Olusoji Fasuba, is a celebrated athlete, having won the African Championships title in 2004 and an Olympic bronze medal in the 4x100m relay at the Athens 2004 Games. Annabelle’s stellar performances suggest she may follow in her father’s footsteps, blazing a trail in international athletics.
