In a determined effort to cleanse Lagos streets of drugs and other psychotropic substances, the Lagos State Taskforce conducted a series of raids on several notorious blackspots. These areas, known for drug peddling, hooliganism, and street trading, have long been a menace to the community.

The night raid operation took place around Aminkanle Market, NerdC Street by the African Shrine in the Agidigbi area of Ikeja. These locations had allegedly been transformed into a hub for hard drug markets, restaurants, and roadside beer parlors, causing significant human and vehicular traffic as well as environmental nuisance.

Adetayo Akerele, Chairman of the Agency, emphasized that these raids will be a continuous effort. “The activities of these suspected criminals at Aminkanle area of Agbado, Jobi Fele Road by African Shrine, and NerdC Street, especially at night, are dangerous to humanity at all levels,” he stated. “They sell drugs indiscriminately, which is counter-productive to society and also contribute immensely to traffic build-up on adjoining roads at night. It is unfair to residents of this area, and we will ensure that it is completely stamped out.”

Akerele reiterated the commitment of the Lagos State Government and the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fayoade Adegoke. “All hands must be on deck to ensure that all notorious blackspots known for high-level criminalities in the state become a thing of the past,” he said.

In total, 124 suspects were arrested during the operation. Akerele noted that individuals with legitimate business activities were released, while others will face charges in court.
